All you need to know, about Nattokinase supplements

Product description

Packed in the UK, from natto and nothing else.

Nutrition Go nattokinase supplement is made from pure nattokinase, the enzyme extracted from traditional Japanese natto (fermented soybeans), with no unnecessary fillers or additives.

Each batch of this nattokinase UK formula is quality tested and batch controlled, sourced from carefully selected suppliers, then encapsulated in a vegetarian capsule to help preserve the enzyme in its natural form.

Each capsule provides 6,000 FU of nattokinase. FU (fibrinolytic units) measure the enzyme's activity, so you can compare strength between brands. The label serving is 1 to 2 capsules a day, taken away from food, and our capsules are vitamin K2-free.

Nattokinase is part of our heart and circulation range. Before you start, read our nattokinase dosage guide and nattokinase side effects.

The Science

How Natto Works

Natto is a traditional Japanese dish made by fermenting natto beans (soybeans) with the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. During fermentation, the bacteria produce nattokinase, an enzyme belonging to a family known as serine proteases, enzymes whose job is to break down other proteins.

Step 1

Fermentation

Natto beans are fermented with Bacillus subtilis, the traditional process behind natto.

Step 2

Nattokinase forms

The bacteria produce nattokinase, a serine protease enzyme that breaks down other proteins.

Step 3

Absorbed by the body

Once absorbed, nattokinase has been studied for the role it may play in maintaining normal blood flow.

Nattokinase

The fermentation enzyme

Produced during fermentation, nattokinase is a serine protease that has been studied for the role it may play in the body's own processes, particularly those involved in maintaining normal blood flow.

Vitamin K2

A separate, naturally occurring nutrient

Natto also naturally contains vitamin K2, which contributes to normal blood clotting and to the maintenance of normal bone, two distinct functions supported by an entirely different mechanism to nattokinase itself. Our capsules are vitamin K2-free.

Your Questions Answered

How much nattokinase per day?

Each of our nattokinase capsules provides 6,000 fibrinolytic units (FU), and we recommend taking 1 to 2 capsules a day,  also always follow the daily amount stated on your product's label, and speak to your GP before starting if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking any other medication.

What's the best time to take nattokinase?

It is widely recommended to take nattokinase either first thing in the morning or last thing at night, at least 30 to 60 minutes away from food, since the digestive enzymes and stomach acid released during meals can partially degrade the enzyme before it's absorbed. For the full morning-vs-night breakdown, see our guide on the best time to take nattokinase.

Why take nattokinase on an empty stomach?

Nattokinase is a protein-based enzyme, and like other enzymes, it can be broken down by stomach acid and digestive enzymes before it has a chance to be absorbed, particularly when taken alongside a large meal. Taking it on an empty stomach is thought to reduce this competition, so more of the enzyme reaches the bloodstream intact

What are the natto side effects?

Nattokinase is generally well tolerated in studies. The main risk is bleeding: it is not suitable if you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder, and you should stop at least 2 weeks before surgery. If you bruise easily or notice unusual bleeding, stop and speak to your GP.

Some trials found a small fall in blood pressure, so speak to your GP first if you take blood pressure medicine. Read more in our nattokinase side effects guide.

Why is this nutrition go product better than others in this category?

Each capsule states its strength in FU: 6,000 FU, the highest amount commonly used in studies.

It is vitamin K2-free, made with a vegan HPMC capsule, and has no binders or fillers.
